to have or not to have…

Articles in the paper (online for me!) frequently inspire me to write a blog. I think it was the Independent, this morning I usually read the range, that had an article written about how the writer used to go on holiday with her family. She wrote of the long journey on 4 buses and a trek at one point across a town, and that first glimpse of the sea, oh I remember it well even though we did go by car it was usually a slow journey through lots of minor roads. And how today zipping down the motorway or on an airplane this has somehow diminished the journey and its opportunity for reflection and anticipation. We are all always so eager to get everywhere as quickly as possible!
Which, finally, brings me to my point, we frequently have discussions amongst ourselves and with friends and family about the decision whether to get or not, as the case may be, a car!
There are certainly opportunities we miss by not having a car, no doubt of that, especially evening things because the bus service here ceases around 7pm, or the out of the way places we cannot easily visit.
In our daily lives, the getting there and back is definitely part of the experience, the standing at the various bus stops, the chats along the way, the many people we have met not to mention the walking , the cycling, the slowness of the pace and after all the one think we have, very fortunately , is time!

I am speechless….

This rant leaves me speechless; well almost……. one man’s terrorist is another man’s soldier….. (apologies for my alteration of this quote)…….obviously! The taking of life is wrong which ever way you look at it!! And their guy got 3 months house arrest!

Sorry my link doesn’t appear to be working, the ‘rant’ can be found at; http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/8216107.stm

’sorry’

The Americans who have been ‘bellyaching’ about the release of Megrahi have been irritating me a bit (see my previous blog). So when I read the article about the US army officer who served only 3 years house arrest after being found guilty of the massacre of 500 Vietnamese men, women and children because he was ‘following orders’; it appears to me that there is an enormous case of double standards here!! Particularly as it appears to be widely believed that Megrahi was following orders too!

I can think of nothing worse…..

I can think of nothing worse than to be imprisoned for a crime one didn’t commit! I do not know if Magrahi is guilty or innocent, but I have been moved by two communications; one from the father of a victim speaking on five live who followed the case closely and believes Megrahi to be innocent, and secondly with his own statement posted on the BBC website this morning.

WHY?

Why is there this compulsion to change everything? I was very happy using this site and suddenly everything has changed nothing is where it was before?? Why oh why do we have to fiddle with things when they were perfectly good as they were before; its the one thing that drives me mad about using web sites (if that is what they are called?) they are always changing things!! I actually like change but not when it stops me doing what I wanted to do and yes I know in a couple of weeks I will have found what I am looking for, which is currently my links; which used to sit very nicely on the right of this page, and I will be quite happily blogging as if nothing ever changed, but right now I cant find them anywhere, which is irritating me beyond belief and has led me to this rant!!!
So please somebody, anybody if you have any compassion, gently point me in the right direct……..

Well…. thats all really!

I flew here a month ago today and fly back a week today….. but not knowing where to call home (a topic I have discussed before) makes life difficult when writing like this or in conversation! So if anyone has a similar dilemma some guidance would be appreciated!
